Anyone can now rate the cigar or product on that post. You can also thumb up/down comments. Search through the review index page and rate some cigars to try it out. I'm also still looking for anyone that would like to review cigars on the site. I want to try to get back doing them but want to give others a chance to share their thoughts. Soon we will have member blogs for all.

todayscigar.com victim to PC

todayscigar.com is the victim to public correctness. They are a newer site that offers daily cigar 5 pack deals that already has a following with the short time on the net. They are comparable to a Woot for cigars. It seems that the credit card processor dumped them after making a policy that no longer allows tobacco sales on the Internet. This kind of thing is becoming normal these days. Paypal does not allow this either, in fact Paypal will allow the sale of bongs, ashtrays, humidors, etc but no tobacco at all. They do not allow any e-mail address’s with tobacco keywords in them ex. cigar. They suspended my account with @cigarbeat.net even though Cigar Beat does not sell anything.

todayscigar.com is working on finding a new new credit card processor and will start to accept checks and money orders at some point.

Here is the quote from the site:

We regret to inform you, our dedicated customers and casual visitors, that due to circumstances beyond our control we will temporarily be unable to sell cigars over the Internet. Unfortunately, we are unsure of when we will once again be able to accept credit card and debit card orders. Due to an overwhelming response by our customers, we will be offering check and money order as methods of payment as we work to bring our credit card processing back online. The check and money order purchasing will be functional in the next day or two. WE ARE NOT GOING OUT OF BUSINESS. This is simply a hiatus.

We’re sure you will have many questions about what is going on. We’ll be happy to answer as many questions as possible in our discussion forums. Here are some answers to a few of the questions that we anticipate.

  • What happened?: Our credit card processor terminated our contract because they will no longer allow tobacco sales on the Internet.
  • How long have you known about this: Since mid-day on Friday.
  • Will this impact today’s order, or any orders I haven’t yet received?: No. We are still able to accept credit cards until tomorrow. We are still in business, so all of your orders will be delivered as usual. We will continue to answer all customer service inquiries as well.
  • When will you be back online? The website will remain online, we simply won’t be offering any products. As soon as we find a new credit card merchant provider, we’ll be back to business as usual.
  • How will I know when you’re back online?: If you’ve registered with our website, and have opted to receive our newsletter, we will email you as things progress.

PLEASE feel free to ask us anything if you have further questions.

Here is in hopes that todayscigar.com finds a new processor that has a little bigger balls that will not cave to PC.

That really sucks. It seems like we are hearing more and more of this kind of thing.
Tobacco is still a legal product in this country. It galls me that some companies and some city/state governments are dictating to us how we should be living our life. The last thing I need is someone, anyone, telling me how to live.

This is truly ridiculous, we need keep an eye on this, or we’ll lose another freedom. It sounds like we need a letter/fax writing campaign to some politicians…

I’m just glad I checked in on the weekend and helped TodaysCigar unload some of their stock by buying a mystery pack!

I have came close but never broke down and bought any from them yet but they have some very tempting deals.

It looks like they might have found a new company and everything is in the works now.

Maybe someone will write a “generic” letters that people can sign and send to their state’s politicians?? I could put it on the site here and collect all the address’s. I will look into it.

I’m in favor of the letter writing. The only people who the politicians usually hear from are those who want to stop everyone from smoking.

I haven’t bought from todayscigar yet either, but plan to as soon as they get their sales back up.

I have been searching for some open letters and e-mails that could be sent out and I could only really find one e-mail. I’m going to look at it a little closer and see if it would work. You can find it at http://www.smokinglobby.com/forum/about1150.html

I wish they would publicize the name of the credit card company. I sure a lot of us would like to vote with our feet.
