Smoke Notes: Olor Del Cibao Double Shade Presidente

This time around texcigars.com sent me a new cigar to the U.S. market called Olor Del Cibao for review. There is not much information on this line of smokes yet but my understanding is Tex himself ran into these while on a trip to the Dominican Republic.

What texcigars says about this cigar:

Olor Del Cibao cigars come in Sumatra, Connecticut, Maduro Dark, Cuban and double shade wrappers. The special Dominican blend is made of the finest tabaccos from the Dominican region – Villa Gonzalez Santiago. These cigars include cuban seed tabacco, Dominican olor tabacco, and lijero tabacco. Only the finest Dominican binders are used.  These cigars are 100% hand-made. Over 40 hands touch the tobacco before they are delivered to you. They are long-leaf filler cigars that have amazing craftsmanship.

I will be reviewing a couple different cigars from the Olor Del Cibao line.

First up is the Olor Del Cibao Double Shade Presidente
Country: Dominican Republic
Wrapper: Connecticut and Sumatra
Filler: Dominican
Binder: Dominican
Size: Size: 50 x 8
Price: $4.75
Smoke time: Around 120 minute

Pre-light: The first thing I notice is the length of this cigar. At eight inches it barely fits in my humidors. It has a cool barber pole wrapper that seems to be getting popular. It has a lot of small veins, it looks like someone took the wrapper and crumpled it up for the trash like you would a piece of paper. The two wrappers look to be molded nicely together, I see no separation of the two. The only soft spot I feel is by the foot, this could have been caused by the length of the cigar and me forcing (lol) it into my travel humi. It has a nice cap that is large, no issues with the cut. It has a good predraw.

The burn: The first half inch where the foot was soft the ash was a little flaky. Once you get past that half inch the ash turned nice and was lasting almost an inch. Not the longest ash so make sure you tap a little early. The draw on this cigar started effortless giving you tons of flavorful smoke, at the half way point it turned slightly firm with still plenty of flavorful smoke. This cigar smokes from both ends so it burned a little fast (but it never got hot on me). The burn line on this cigar was surprisingly straight. I thought that I would run into a issue because of the double wrapper but it was not the case.

The taste: This cigar has a wide range of flavors. To many for me to pick them all out. Brian picked out creamy peanuts and almonds, some faint caramel, cinnamon, sweet wood turning earthy and leathery. I picked up the sweetness towards the beginning including the wood. The leather kicked in at about the two thirds mark and stayed with it.

Over all: I do not like to review cigars with only one under my belt so this will be considered smoke notes. I really liked this one. It has a great look to it, great flavor and a good burn line. The only issue I had was with the ash dropping off a little early. This is a long ass smoke but the body is on the mild side. A good smoke if you have time sitting outside hanging out. Your friends will ask you about it! These run $94.99 and I say well worth it. If you would like to give these a try without commenting to a box you can pick up a Olor Del Cibao sampler from Texcigars for a whopping $9.99 for four cigars!

Try these in a Olor Del Cibao sampler today.
