I have only had one Acid in my time of smoking cigars and I remember it doing a number on me. I have always kept clear of them.
Well I always say you need to try everything at least twice and when Jarrod from Tex Cigars sent me some to try I figure no better time to try it again than now. So cautiously here we go…
Acid Kuba Deluxe
Length/Ring: 6 x 50
Shape: Toro
Strength: Medium
Wrapper: Sumatra
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Origin: Nicaraguan
These come in tubes for storage for people that do not smoke much. When I open the box and before I open any tube I can smell the cigars. Smells a little like a minty/floral perfume.
Prelight: The cigar looks to be well made. No soft spots and a small cap. No real big veins that I notice. Once I open the tube the minty/floral perfume smell is mighty strong and a prelick tastes like it smells. I used a cutter on this cigar and it cut well with a very good prelight draw.

First third of this cigar surprisingly had some spice to it. Good burn, good draw and good amount of smoke. I thought the smell would be overpowering but to this point it isn’t. It is almost like they sweetened this cigar like the cheap flavored smokes but it is the infusion process. The ash got about an inch and a half before it dropped (in my lap grrr) and it seemed kinda weak but the burn is holding on pretty good.
Second third: The spice is all but gone and it is a mellow smoke with the same minty/floral smell and taste. Now that my hotel room is starting to fill with some smoke the smell has taken it over. I took a walk down the hall and back and could smell it all the way.
Finish: Not much to report here. This cigar is pretty consistent all through but gets a little bitter at the end.
Overview: Even though this one did not make me sick as the last one I had I don’t find it to be my cup of tea. The construction is very good with good burn. The taste/smell is not bad but just a little much for me. Most either love it or hate it with no middle ground. This would be a good cigar to impress non smokers and even the wife. But if you light one of these up in a cigar bar you might be asked to leave, then when you get home you will have to explain to the wife that it is not strip club perfume she is smelling on you. This cigar attracts the younger crowd (not that I’m old!) for the most part but might find a place in your humidor. I would buy the tubo so you don’t have to keep it with your other smokes.
This is one you will have to try for yourself and see if it is to your liking. I’m sure I will keep one or two for those nights my sweat tooth kicks in.
Thanks again to the new guy in town Tex Cigars for sending us cigars to review. Please check out the deals they have and support this blog!
