This post comes as a result of the attempted murder by my wife over cigars that showed up at my house. As you may remember not all were purchases. Two were bombs and one was a box sent by a sponsor. Not that she was really that mad or even gets on me to much about my hobby but this cold have been avoided all together. What I’m not saying here is that you should lie to your wife. I would never do that, besides I give myself up every time. I’m not a good liar, I don’t think I have ever lasted 5 minutes in a fib.

5 Ways To Purchase Quietly:

Use cash. Visit your local B&M and pay in cash. Stay away from using a credit/debit cards that is shared with the wife. And do not put the receipts in your pocket. Throw it in the trash on your way out the door.

Use Paypal. Even though Paypal will not allow tobacco sales on-line, they do have a debit card. Paypal also serves as a good savings account. I use my account for my “play money” that I make online. On a side note, I’m anti Paypal but it is the best service of its kind right now.

Don’t over spend. Don’t make it stick out. Buy what you can get away with.

Out of sight, out of mind. Keep your cigars out of sight of the wife. She doesn’t need to know you started a cooli’dor . Just put it down in the basement in the corner.

Don’t talk cigars with your wife. Well this is unless you wife is a SOTL. But my guess is for most of you she is not. The less you talk about cigars with her the less she will be looking for them and that is always good.

I have been looking for one of these for a long time. I could never find them local and would forget to add one to my cart while shopping online. That was before I read Brian’s review over at SR. I was on a mission to get a couple of these back here to put in my work truck. See I’m on the road about 3-4 days most weeks and get in between 500-1000 miles in travel so these would come in handy.

I picked mine up at Ebay for $4.99 each and $4.00 shipping for both of them. I have since found them at JR’s for a whopping $3.95 and $2.63 shipping.

Brand: Bobken
Colors: Brown, Tan, and Blue
Price: $3.95 (at Jr’s)

The Ashtray: The ashtray is a good concept. Made out of a thick plastic it is supposed to last over 10 years. It has a long arm to rest your cigar while you drive. It is the size of a standard cup and fits in all (old and new) cup holders in any car. It also has another arm to put between the window and door frame like the old time cup holders from the 80’s just in case the manufacturer forgot to put cup holders in your car. Come on, you remember them. They were made for big gulps so anything smaller would bounce around and spill all over the place. And you would spill it every time you would slam the door forgetting it was their. Aww, the 80’s. Big hair and spandex.

Pros:

  • Gives you a place to rest your cigar.
  • Gives you place to put your cigar out instead of throwing it out the window and fighting the wind and then catching an ash in your eye.
  • Good size.
  • Clean looking (hides the ash and butts)
  • Easy to clean.
  • Very convenient.
  • The price

Cons:

  • They need more colors. They need to add black at the very least.
  • If your cup holders are in a bad place this will be as well.
  • Smaller cigars tend to slide forward towards the black hole..
  • Looks like something made in the 80’s.
  • Takes up a cup holder.

Over all: If you smoke in your car a lot then this is a must for you. I have not found anything better to date for cigars. It holds any size cigar. So any FTE (you’ll know what this is if you listen to Bubba) or anyone else that drives a lot I would highly recommend this. It has worked out perfect for me so far.

I wish I had time to take some pictures. Check out Brian’s review, he is good with the camera.

tombstone

OK I’m not dead,,,,, YET,,,,This week has been a high tension one at my house. I had to sleep with one eye open to make sure my wife didn’t off me while I slept. Why you ask? Because of the stuff that has been showing up at our house this week.

I started the week off with a small B&M purchase on Sunday while me and the wife was in the city. Then I got hit with two generous bombs from a couple members of the forum. Next my Ebay purchase of a couple Bobken ashtrays showed up (I can thank Brian from SR for this one) then a box of Camacho 10th Anniversary for next months group review from Tex Cigars. You would think that would be the end of it but no, my CigarMonkey order shows up! Is that it, no…… My new TomTom should be here any day and also a new John Deer lawnmower, cell phone booster for the house and my stinky ashtray!

Luckily we have a Deacon that does funerals on the forum just in case I have a mysterious accident in the next week or two. I had to break out the old school charm. What wife could resist a fat guy whisking her off her feet? OK so I will be doing extra housework, painting and maintenance.

So do I deserve the heat that I have received the past week? I would say yes, I know I would be all over it if I was her. Luckily I have a pretty cool wife that doesn’t hold grudges to long. I do know though that I will not be buying anything for a while to be on the safe side.

Have you had any run-ins with the wife over cigars purchases?
