Anyone can now rate the cigar or product on that post. You can also thumb up/down comments. Search through the review index page and rate some cigars to try it out. I'm also still looking for anyone that would like to review cigars on the site. I want to try to get back doing them but want to give others a chance to share their thoughts. Soon we will have member blogs for all.

Cigar Spike Review

The Cigar Spike is a newer tool that is supposed to replace a punch or cutter. The saying goes, “Don’t cut it, spike it!” The idea around this interesting little thing is to have access to something to open the head of your cigar without needing to carry a cutter around with you that you could lose.

Cigar Spike

First I will start with what I don’t like about this thing, well I should say what does not work for me.  It looks like it is supposed to be put on your key ring so you always have it with you. Now if I have to tell you that keeping something called a spike in your pocket is a bad idea then you might not be the sharpest spike in the group (I know, cheesy). Even though this is made of plastic, I’m sure it is going to hurt like hell when you go digging through your pocket and jam it up your fingernail or stab yourself in the leg with it. My suggestion to help fix this would be to add a rubber cap to the end of it to cover the sharp point.

What I like about the Cigar Spike is the size, shape and cost. The size is small and flat. Perfect for a wallet, I have been keeping mine there and not in my pocket. I was afraid to to use this thing for the first time on a good smoke so I spiked a cheap bundle cigar. After seeing it did work as advertised I used it a couple more times. They cost $1 each, what else can I say here.

Another thing I like is it a new idea for cigars. The past couple of years people from online communities have invented some pretty good stuff for us like The Puck. I always welcome new toys to try out.

I think it is going to depend on your situation if it will work for you. I travel and lose things easy and hate to carry a cutter with me because I forget it is in my computer case and they get taken away at airports etc. I do keep a punch on my keyring but it is hard to punch a smoke while driving when it is attached to your steering wheel. The Spike doesn’t open the end of your cigar nearly as much as a cutter but I have got pretty good draws on everything I have used it on.

Bottom line is, this would not be my first choie but hell, they are $1 each. Well worth keeping one in the wallet for a back up.

Do you think this is a good idea?

I have a Cigar Spike in my wallet as well. I have been using one for a month or so. My wife and I got one at a show in Michigan. My wife likes it, because she doesn’t like tabaco in here month and it has a smooth draw. Cool idea, I’ll buy more.

Yea, why not keep one in the wallet. I have been in a situation where I either forgot my cutter or didn’t plan on having a cigar and changed my mind. This way you will always have something to use and for $1 why not…
