Anyone can now rate the cigar or product on that post. You can also thumb up/down comments. Search through the review index page and rate some cigars to try it out. I'm also still looking for anyone that would like to review cigars on the site. I want to try to get back doing them but want to give others a chance to share their thoughts. Soon we will have member blogs for all.

Cigar Review: PIO VI Overture 1996 No. 52 Toro

pio_cigar.jpg

Work, kids hanging on you,  kids game, work, shoveling snow, dealing with a crazy family. Does that sound like your day because that has been everyday life for me this winter. But not today, today I get to review a cigar sent to me by Tex Cigars called PIO VI Overture No. 52 Toro. Since I have moved I have only visited my local B&M shop once. Moving to the country has its downfalls but the pitch-black nights and the lack of big city stress makes up for it in a big way.

One thing that really sticks out to me is that Alberto Medina honors his clients and his  appreciation to God with this cigar. If you are a believer or not I am and that goes a long way with me.

Site info from www.piovi.com:

The new PIO VI Overture Series 1996, containing no celofain.
This new cigar is aged 2 months in a cedar box, and its production will be limited to just 700 numbered boxes for the National market. This grand reserve is in honor of my clients, and as an appreciation to God for giving me the opportunity to rise with dignity during this difficult time of my life.

About PIO VI:

In 1996 the “Cigar Boom” was in full effect. Even though the flavor of a good tobacco, as well as the enjoyment and relaxation that came along with smoking one, really appealed to me, I was more involved with my music at the time.
Since I was 16 years old, I enjoyed both studying and sharing my joy of music with others. It was later in life that I Learned a cigar, much like music, can lift the spirits, and could become a form of art. The same passion I felt for my music, I have put into the creation and perfection of the PIO VI Cigar.
I have dedicated my life to the PIO VI Cigar for years, and have carefully created the perfect blend to bring out the uncompromising Taste and aroma of our product.

My goal is to stay connected with my clients, share my vision and take the time to hear the thoughts of all of those who have had the pleasure of smoking a PIO VI.

Pre-light: This is a fine looking cigar with small to medium sized veins. Very solid, nice cap and just looks like it wants to be smoked. The darker silky smooth wrapper has some variations in color.

The burn: The burn on this cigar was pretty good. Needed one touch up but for the most part the burn line stayed in check. The ash was white and tight with very little flakes lasting until I wanted it to drop into my Bobken ashtray that I use while driving.

The taste: This cigar starts out as a medium body cigar that turns to full body around the half way mark. I picked up some black pepper with an undertone of spice for sure and some flavors that I could not put my finger on. This cigar does have a unique dryness that Cigar Jack says reminded him of a red wine. I agree with his analogy and would compare it to the dryness of wine like a shiraz (Syrah) which is one of my favorite wines.

Over all: This cigar surprised me with the flavor profile and long finish. I really enjoyed it and look forward to picking up some more. If you have not tried this one I would suggest picking a couple up.

  • Half Review: PIO RESURRECTION Toro – Cigar Beat says:

[...] My 2 hour drive flew by as I enjoyed this cigar. The PIO web site doesn’t have much up on this cigar but I would recommend it.  Tex Cigars has the Resurrection in box or 5-packs. I’m really becoming a fan of PIO, I also really enjoy the Overture Series. [...]
