Cigar Review: Cuvée Blanc
Tweet
The Cuvée Blanc is a new cigar from Dominican Republic manufactured by DomRey Cigar Limited. This cigar was was sent to members of the forum for review by CigarMonkey , Inc. I have been wanting to try this smoke since I seen it at my local shop so I’m more than happy that he gifted us these smokes.
Founded in 1995 by Bill Finley and Michael Chiusano, DomRey began in Boston where Chiusano and Finley were investment advisors. Chiusano also brought in his brother Joseph, who was with the Sheriff’s Department in Boston. In October 1997, the partners moved their headquarters from Boston to Sarasota, Florida in order to bring the company closer to the fields and factories of the Dominican Republic. Administration, sales and distribution are conducted out of the 1600 sq. ft. office in Sarasota and the company maintains part ownership in one of three manufacturing facilities in Santo Domingo.

Pre-light: The cigar I’m looking at has a couple larger veins. This cigar is a little bumpy but has has a smooth wrapper. The cap is well placed and large. It is a solid smoke but nothing really special looking about it. It has the traditional Connecticut Shade look. It has a little spring when you give the foot a pinch and also with the cut. It has a good tobacco smell to it and the predraw had a little must in it (?) and another nice flavor I can not pick out and has a very good draw.
The burn: The draw is perfect on this cigar from start to finish. You get plenty of smoke. Not much more to say on this. The burn line was OK, it ran a little all the way down the first half but nothing that needed corrected. The last half got much better. I would give the burn an 8.5 out of 10. It has a nice ash that held on for the first third. A fluffy ash if there is such a thing.
The taste: I picked up wood, a little mustiness, pepper and a little nicotine with a tartness. Nothing to do flips about but a nice change of pace. I would call it pleasant.
Over all: I had a bit of trouble getting the band off. I also burned the band! That should be enough to tell you I liked this smoke. A nice smoke for a night with not much going on that you can get lost in. I don’t think I would drink anything stronger tea with it. It really reminds me of a mellowed out Cusano 18 Double Connecticut. As you may recall I did not like the 18 last time I had one and at $6.25 find the Cuvee Blanc to be a much better choice.

The word is “musk” not “must.” I’m really not a jerk, and I apologize in advance, but not knowing what words you’re using makes me _much_ less likely to return to this website.
I retract my previous statement. After smoking this cigar, it is possible you were trying to describe a moldy stale flavor.
I was wrong to assume you meant “strongly sweet.” My apologies.
Shawn- I can take criticism as long as it is constructive. I do not always explain myself perfect but I’m working on it.
I was trying to point out mustiness. Like a damp basement, slightly moldy as you stated.
Thanks for stopping by and feel free to disagree. Disagreeing does not make you a jerk, it is one of the many things that keep this great country on the up and up
Just tried the Cuvee Blanc Robusto this afternoon, and I’ll have to agree with the majority of the other reviews in that it is a really light cigar, great for beginners. I’m more of a fan of medium to more full-bodied cigars that offer more complexity. It really didn’t change much in the way of flavor or notes right from the first third down to the bottom third. The common note I found throughout the duration of the cigar was creaminess, but often at times, I also found it to be slightly musky. At times there was a subtle hint of earth and leather, slight nuttiness, but nothing too dramatic enough to raise my attention. I did find that the bottom third offered a tiny note of peppery spice but again, nothing too dramatic. The cigar was really well constructed with a great draw and even burn. My smoke time was quite fast as up here in Canada your enjoyment of the cigar is cut short from trying not to freeze your ass off. As such, the spicy notes may have come from the fact that I might have been over-burning my cigar from smoking too fast..I dunno. All in all though, it was a very one-dimensional cigar. Definately not one of my favorites, but again, perfect for the beginner smoker, and great for a Sunday afternoon smoke…unless you’re some place warmer than Canada…this place sucks to smoke cigars.
DK, I have to admit I have only had one or two of these since the review. Have not had a craving.
Yea, it does suck to be a cigar smoker in Canada! I about crapped when I seen the prices you guys have to pay due to taxes plus the diseased lung pictures they have to put on every box. Don’t feel so bad, the U.S. is not far behind.
I thought I was going to be in Canada next week but my job got called off. It is to bad, I love visiting you guys. Good beer, good people what else could you ask for? Well cheaper cigars!
